YOUR OPINION IS REQUESTED!
During spring 2006, the "Ferguson Slide" buried a section of California State Highway 140, one of the main routes into Yosemite National Park. As of autumn 2006, most of the Ferguson Slide appeared to be at rest, although rocks occasionally continued to fall. As a temporary measure, traffic was re-routed to the opposite side of the Merced River at about the same elevation as the buried section of Highway 140 and a state-of-the-art monitoring system was installed to detect movement in the slope or main slide mass, local strong ground motion from regional earthquakes, and/or sudden changes in stream levels.
The portion of the Merced Wild and Scenic River affected by the Slide is Segment #8, evaluated as having Outstandingly Remarkable Value (ORV) consisting of three primary recreation activities: whitewater boating, camping, and hiking. As a result, Cal Trans is evaluating a range of alternatives to permanently improve current access to the section of Highway 140 affected by the Ferguson Slide.
The primary purpose of this study is to document your opinions about various bridge and tunnel alternatives being proposed to address the Ferguson Slide on the Merced Wild and Scenic River. A secondary purpose is to determine the perceived effects of the proposed alternatives on your recreation experience.
Tell us what you think about the long-term bridge and tunnel alternatives being proposed to address the Ferguson Slide. Surveys will be collected through Summer 2009.
There are three ways to complete the survey:
1) You can complete an on-line survey by sending an e-mail request to: mercedriverrec@yahoo.com
2) You can complete a paper survey by sending an e-mail request to:
